DPSS Collaborates with Living Advantage, Inc. to Empower LGBTQ+ Community During Pride Month

LOS ANGELES - June 8, 2023 - PRLog -- The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) is teaming up with local community-based organizations like Living Advantage, Inc. (LA, Inc.), a foster youth agency, to support and assist LGBTQ+ individuals in signing up for CalFresh Food Benefits. This collaboration aims to foster inclusivity, promote equality, and address food insecurity within the LGBTQ+ community.

Recognizing the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals, DPSS has joined forces with 25 qualified community-based organizations to ensure that everyone has equal access to vital resources, including food. The partnership aims to remove barriers and provide comprehensive support throughout the application process.

The LGBTQ+ community is twice as likely as others to face hunger and over 20% of that community lives in poverty and are affected by food insecurity. Because of these staggering statistics, LA, Inc. is excited about the opportunity to change these figures and to widen the range of crucial social services to marginalized communities.
