5 Days. Real Skills. Free Food. Serious Fun.

Spring Break at the Living Advantage Youth Center (LAYC) wasn’t just a way to stay busy—it was a chance to level up, connect with community, and explore new skills in a space made for youth, by youth.

From March 25–29, 2025, we welcomed students ages 12–18 to our Crenshaw location for a full week of hands-on learning, daily activities, and opportunities to win prizes, get creative, and grow—literally (shoutout to the sunflower starters).

Here’s a quick look at what went down:

🌻 Monday: Seed Starting

We kicked things off by planting the seed—literally. Students designed and decorated their own pots, learned how to care for sunflowers, and talked about personal growth. From a tiny seed to something that stands tall, the message was simple: you’ve got potential—water it.

🎨 Tuesday: Arts & Crafts

Creativity took over as youth made friendship bracelets, custom buttons, collages, and more. It was a cozy, expressive day where students got to create freely and show off their unique style.

🥚 Wednesday: Egg Drop Challenge

Teams competed to build contraptions that could protect an egg from a big drop. It was teamwork, problem-solving, and a little engineering—all wrapped in a high-stakes (and hilarious) challenge.

🎮 Thursday: Video Game Tournament

With our PS4 VR headset and high-powered gaming PCs in action, this was the day to flex gaming skills and build community. Prizes, bragging rights, and serious hype made it one of the most anticipated days of the week.

🚀 Friday: STEAM Showdown

All week, students had been working in teams on their own STEAM projects—from rebuilding community spaces to designing future tech. On Friday, they presented their ideas in front of judges for a chance to win big. Spoiler: they all crushed it.

🎁 All Week Highlights:

  • Free lunch every day

  • Daily raffle prize winners

  • Vibes, mentorship, and real conversations

  • Connection with peers and staff who actually care

Why It Matters

Our V.A.L.E.™ Spring Workshop Series isn’t about checking a box—it’s about giving youth real-world tools, confidence, and a space to belong. Whether it’s learning how to speak up, solve a problem, or build something from scratch, we’re showing up so they can show out.
